What is Wheel of Time and why should you read it? | IdiotReborn

Greetings earthlings! Today I talking about one of my favorite series the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and why you should read. *I have a review for the series which you can read hereI read this series earlier this year and I did write of review and now I will try and explain the best I can. *this will be hard.

What is Wheel of Time?

Wheel of Time is high fantasy series with fourteen books and a prequel that are giant and it was written by Robert Jordan and later on Brandon Sanderson. Every book tells the same continuous story but at the end of book we get some sort of ending that resolves something. It is about a world that is facing an end of the age that has been prophesied  and there were be a chosen one to fight off the darkness. It is set in fantasy world that is pre industry and sort of post apocalypse with there being a war 3000 years earlier, the male half magic got tainted, and there was a really bad fall out and now women can safety magic. Our heroes are a group of friends in late teens or earlier twenties from a village.

After the village is attacked, our main protagonist Rand and his friends have to leave and they sort of figure that they can go home once the danger passes *hahahahahahahaha welcome to being a protagonist your life is now really hard. They all get new abilities and they get caught up in  this really big thing that is the Wheel of Time plot line and have to try and save the world. The first book is mainly in Rand point of view but as the series goes on we got other point views from other characters. More stories are brought in as more characters are brought into the story and they all bring very different perspective to the story.

The antagonist in this series is Shai’tan who is called the Dark One *isn’t a racist things it’s like star wars and everyone who follows is called a Dark Friend. There is also a good side called the Light which is lead by a guy named Lews Therin Telamon who is also known as the Dragon and thats like the all powerful channeler. A channeler is a person who can do magic stuff. But after they reseal the prison where all they were all, the Dark One does this thing where all the male channelers go insane and Lews Therin kills him family then himself. The whole plot is around people trying to bring the Dark One back but a new Dragon is reborn.

If you didn’t notice I mention that it was written by two different authors and that is because Robert Jordan die in 2007 before the final book *which originally just the last three books combined and called the gathering storm which is the name for book number #12. Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy writer who was a fan of the series took up the role of finishing the series off. The book was already like half way written so Sanderson I think just finished it off. I like the three books. The wrapped things up all and it had a great but really heartbreaking ending. Some fans don’t agree with that. In fact according to a tumblr blog some wheel of time fans won’t read the last three books because they don’t want to read what he has written. It’s not the same author that created the series that we fell in love with. I look at the last three books before I read them like how I looked at Cursed Child. I knew that it probably wasn’t going to be like the books that I had read before but it was still apart of the story and I was going to read it.

Have there been any adaptions of the series? Well yes and no. FX created a pilot based off the prologue in the first book Eye of the World which is six pages long *no you don’t have to read that again. you read it correctly the first time. and called it Winter Dragon *wtf???? The pilot aired at one in the morning and Billy Zane was Ishamael and when fans got word of the pilot, the fan web site Dragonmount crashed. The pilot failed though for so many reasons but I listed the most common ones.

  • The fans hated it. I’m not kidding I know one guy who has claimed to like this pilot.
  • They never told his wife, who owns the rights to Wheel of Time, about an adaption being made. They never gave her any information on this happening so there was like a law suit.
  • It sucked.

Here’s the link if you want to watch it.

Before we had Winter Dragon though, at one point at was announced that there were going to be movie based off these books but that sadly that never happened. You know a great fantastic series, that is basically a classic, can’t get a movie deal but stuff Fifty Shades of Grey, which is abusive bullshit and isn’t a classic, somehow can *what a world we live in. We do have hope though because in April of this year it was a announced that was becoming a tv. That was all that was given out nothing else but hey i can only have hope.

We do have a this really awesome fan video and it’s the best! Here’s the link.

Why should you read it?

Now you are probably like why should I read a fourteen book series and the books are soo big that you could probably kill someone? Well, Wheel of Time is a fantastic series with a crazy intense plot, characters from different places with different personalities and you guys who have read the books know when I talk about character I really mean, you should just read this series because MAT CAUTHON!

I’m a gambler, a farmboy, and I’m here to take command of your bloody army!”

The prologue is only six pages but so much happens that you have no choice but to continue on because you’re just like ‘what is happening right now?’. This series was originally only going to be six books but it got so big and complex that we got other eight books. There so many fans that read this series and there is a guy on Dragonmount, who made a blog post talking about how the Wheel of Time inspired him to write a book. We have a website that is all about this series.

Also did I mention that we have a ton of strong females characters because we do. All of them are so cool and fantastic. We have more female lead characters then most high fantasy books. That’s pretty cool. There are kick ass characters of all genders and some are different creatures too. The fights are great and even though this may be a deal breaker, when you finish this series you will be emotionally unstable probably forever and will never find a series as good as this.

Well that was fun. I hope you enjoyed this fun rant / review of why you should read this series. This post is more then thousands words so that should show how much I love this series and think everyone in the world should read so that it can be the next Game of Thrones. Have you guys read this series? If you have, do you like it or do you hate it? Let me know. I hope you enjoyed this and I post once every week. Like, Comment, and follow for more rants like these!
