The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Review | Epic Adaptations

Greetings Earthlings! Today I’m reviewing City of Bones, the movie!

WARNING SPOILERS

I have a review for the book here and I have a review for the show here which you should check out. So before Shadowhunters happened they made a movie version of City of Bones staring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower back in 2013. If I’m being honest I had never heard of the Mortal Instruments until this movie. I was a really big Lily Collins fan and I heard she was in this movie so I was like I want to watch it. So I watched it even though I had never read the books and I really enjoyed it even though I have no discovered that most all the fans don’t like this movie.

After reading the books, I can see why I mean it’s not the best adaptions out there but compared to Shadowhunters this movie is one of the best things out there. There are things that I like about this movie and there are something that I don’t like about. One thing about this movie is that it is pretty accurate to the book but that is also a con as it has some of my least things about the book. Like with Isabelle and Alec being real jerks and I’m like can’t we all get along. In Shadowhunters Izzy is nicer which I like because they have a great relationship later on and the beginning is so hard. Alec is still mean but you know he is in love with Jace and Jace doesn’t love him back.

I love Lily Collins in movie. She’s great! I loved her as Clary and I love Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. They are the actors that I prefer as these characters. I mean Dom Sherwood is great but I just like this Jace more. The acting in this movie is a lot better then it is in the show and so are the graphics. The movie does have less Magnus which is accurate a little because he is not in the book a lot but I love him! He is my favorite character in the world which is something I like about the show more because there are so many moments with him and with him and Alec it’s amazing. I do like some of the show actors more because they add more to the characters. Even though this movie is fun and it a good adaptation of the book it is pretty boring at some times. I mean the book is 400 pages and a lot of that is filled with moments with the characters and nothing with the plot and they took some of those moments and added them to movie.

Accuracy: 75%

The film is pretty close to book. I mean I can see why fans had a problem with this film and that’s why it didn’t work but it’s a better adaptation then show even though the show does do some things better. There are lines from the book which I did like because they were some of my favorite lines from the books. I did enjoy this movie and I’m sad the City of Ashes never got to be made. Shadowhunters is an okay show and I will be watching the second season for next Epic Adaptations with City of Ashes. This movie is fun and it’s nice to watch. If you like the Mortal Instruments then I think you’ll like this. I’m giving City of Bones a +B.

Rating: +B for being great but also so moments that weren’t the best

I enjoyed this film it’s a lot of fun. It isn’t the best film out there but if you just want something to watch and have a good time watching then this a good film for you. IF you like shadowhunters please do not come for me. This is just my opinion and I do like Shadowhunters. Okay? Okay calm down. Have you guys watched this movie? What did you think of it? Greetings Earthlings! Today I’m announcing my bookclub called Epic Adaptations!

So if you didn’t know and I don’t think you would know, I’ve had a book club for awhile. It’s nothing special I had two books picked out and then I forgot about it. I felt bad because I really wanted to do it but I wanted to do something fun with it. If you also know that I want to do more movie posts. So I’m going to do both! This bookclub will involve reading book and the film or tv show that is based that book.

I will be picking one book once a month and the review of the book should came out in the middle of the month followed by the move review at the end of month. In the adaptations review, I will give two ratings. One will be an accuracy rating on how will it matches the book and then I will gave another rating on how much I enjoyed it. If I pick a book that I have already reviewed then I’ll probably just repost that review or I’ll redo it if I don’t like it or I forgot about something.

My book for this month is one that I’m picking because I already have a post ready to get started on and I want to talk about. The show came out a couple months ago and you heard about, it was trending on tumblr for like week. Yep that’s right for this month I’ll be reviewing 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher and I’ll also be watching the first season of the Netflix hit. I haven’t seen the show, I saw like the first minute and then I stopped watching because it was already wrong. I don’t know maybe I’ll like.

I hope you enjoy these reviews that are coming up soon like 13 Reasons Why the book review and Spiderman: Homecoming review. Look at for that! If you would like to join the book club then click here to join or just stay tune on this blog to find out what book is coming next.
